27 January 2006Cancer Research UK scientists, including Professor Steve Jackson of the University of Cambridge, believe they have discovered the final piece of the picture of how cells fix a severe type of DNA damage thereby reducing the chances that the cells become cancerous. Their findings are in the latest issue of the journal Cell.

26 January 2006Professor Sir Nicholas Shackleton, the eminent earth scientist, former director of the Godwin Laboratory for Quaternary Research in the Department of Earth Sciences and Emeritus Fellow of Clare Hall, died at the age of 68 on 24 January 2006.
