A message from the University's Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education, Professor Bhaskar Vira, to all students.

Dear students

The University and Colleges Union (UCU) wrote to the Vice Chancellor yesterday to confirm that they were no longer calling on members of the union to participate in a marking and assessment boycott (MAB). This is with immediate effect.

My colleague, Prof Kamal Munir, has written to all staff reminding them that the completion of outstanding marking and assessment must now be their highest priority over the coming days.

Approved marks and class lists must be supplied to the University’s Examinations Office by 16 October 2023 at the very latest. We believe that the additional time now available before the start of the new academic year - due to yesterday’s announcement - should make it easier for Departments and Faculties to meet this deadline.

Your Faculty or Department will write to you with specific details about the final dates for the release of your marks once they have reassessed their timelines in light of this announcement.

If you have further questions, please contact your Faculty or Department. You may also wish to read the University’s FAQs on the boycott, write in to the MAB help desk, or discuss any specific concerns with your College tutor.

I am glad that we are finally approaching the end of this period of uncertainty and stress, and that those of you who do not yet have your exam results will soon receive them.

With best wishes

Bhaskar

Professor Bhaskar Vira, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education
