All are welcome at the Sermon, and afterwards there will be a wine-reception at Michaelhouse for those attending.
The title of his Sermon will be: 'Missionaries to Yourselves. The Africanisation of the Church's Mission in Africa'.
The Ramsden Sermon is preached every year on the topic of Church Extension overseas.
Michael Fitzgerald has been Apostolic Nuncio to the Republic of Egypt and Delegate to the League of Arab States since 2006.
Titular Bishop of Nepte since 1992, and Archbishop since 2002, he was previously President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue at the Vatican, and he is a leading expert within the Roman Catholic Church on Muslim-Christian relations and Interreligious dialogue.
Born in Walsall, he was ordained priest as a member of the Society of Missionaries of Africa (The White Fathers) in 1961 and has studied in Ireland, the Netherlands, Tunisia, and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (where he completed his Doctorate), as well as in the United Kingdom, where he is a graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.
Archbishop Fitzgerald's recent publications include 'Dieu rêve d'unité. Les catholiques et les religions: les leçons du dialogue. Entretiens avec Annie Laurent' (Paris, 2005) and 'Interfaith Dialogue. A Catholic View'(with John Borelli, London, 2006).
