From harnessing wind power to generating clean coal technologies, the UK Government has of late increased its investments in green initiatives as a strategic means of creating sustainable opportunities. A free seminar highlighting these opportunities will take place tomorrow evening, Thursday 29 April.
The seminar entitled ‘Entrepreneurship in the Green Economy’ is being run by ‘These Young Minds’, a service based social enterprise. The event aims to equip emerging entrepreneurs with the skills to thrive in the green economy, and to help understand how entrepreneurial solutions have the potential to improve people, profit and the planet.
Professor Alan Barrell, Entrepreneur in Residence at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning at the University, who will be chairing the event said: ‘Innovation and entrepreneurship, the areas to be discussed throughout this seminar, will be at the heart of the passionate progress needed to take the green economy from dream toward reality.’
Other guest speakers will include: Sak Nayagam, Accenture’s Climate Change Practice Lead for Europe who will talk about identifying the challenges for business in the green economy, Trewin Restorick, CEO of Global Action Plan, who will deliver the keynote on entrepreneurship in the green economy, and Darren Strange, Environmental Sustainability Lead for Microsoft UK, who will highlight how innovative ICT solutions can contribute to ‘greening’ your business.
Founder and Director of These Young Minds, Alim Abubakre said: ‘The benefits of this seminar to our students and Cambridge University at large cannot be over-emphasized. This seminar will go a long way in adding value to the various complementary skills of our students (both undergraduates and the post graduates) in becoming innovative entrepreneurs in their various disciplines. This will afford them to be able to compete effectively in the dynamic global markets.’
The seminar will begin at 5pm at the LTO, Department of Engineering. Attendance is free; members of the public are advised to register at: https://texem.co.uk/events/ticketing.php?billet=1
