Do you know somebody exceptional who deserves recognition for their volunteering? Nominations are now open for the 2010 Gold Awards for student volunteering, run in conjunction with Volunteering England.

The Awards recognise student volunteers for leadership, dedication and achievement. They provide an opportunity for students to have their commitment, skills and contribution to the community recognised and to celebrate the diverse and extensive voluntary activity which takes place every day across the University.

At any time around a third of the undergraduate and postgraduate student population at Cambridge is actively involved in a voluntary activity of some kind, giving over 85,000 hours of their time.

The University of Cambridge sees public and community engagement as an important part of its role in society. Work that embraces this includes educational projects for schools and colleges, musical performances, fundraising, the lending of facilities to community organisations, and mentoring homeless people.

Nominations for the 2010 Gold Awards close at 5pm on Friday 7 May and will be judged by a university panel.
