PhD Student Laura James is one of the six finalists for the WISE Excellence Award for outstanding women scientists, engineers and technologists.
Laura is starting the final year of her PhD in Engineering and is collaborating with Intel Research Cambridge, to build an optically switched network for short distance data transport. She works in the Centre for Photonic Systems, part of the new Centre for Advanced Photonics and Electronics (CAPE), where her supervisor is Professor Ian White.
She has been a Science and Engineering Ambassador with SETPoint Cambridgeshire for years, organising practical engineering activities for local school children so they can learn and love working in technology fields. Laura is also involved with the Women@CL project, for women who are involved in computing research and study the University of Cambridge Computer Lab.
