The University of Cambridge rugby team has retained the MMC trophy after a draw in the 122nd Varsity Match at Twickenham. It is the first tie between the sides since 1965.

Despite Oxford being the heavy favourites at the start of the match, Cambridge took a deserved early lead with two penalties from Dafydd Lewis in the 7th and 18th minutes. Oxford went on the take the lead late in the first half with an unconverted try from Henry Nwume and a penalty from Ryan O’Mahoney. Controversy surrounded a drop-goal from Lewis in first-half injury time which was overruled by the referee.

Oxford had a significant amount of territory and possession and dominated the second half but failed to break Cambridge’s extremely tight resistance and defence. A late try came from Cambridge wing Charlie Desmond, who was on hand to capitalise on a break by Akinola Abiola in the closing minutes.

Cambridge retain the trophy due to their 15-13 victory at Twickenham in last year's Varsity Match.
