Members of the University of Cambridge should wear their gowns at the Sermon.
The title of his Sermon will be:
'Chaos and Light: Living in the Between'
Paul Fiddes is Professor of Systematic Theology at Oxford, and was formerly Principal of Regent's Park College, where he is currently Director of Research.
A Baptist Minister since 1972 and a leading scholar in the fields of theology and literature, Professor Fiddes was educated at St Peter's College, Oxford (now Honorary Fellow), and did postdoctoral work at Tübingen.
Paul Fiddes was Tutorial Fellow in Christian Doctrine at Regent's Park College from 1975 until 1989, when he became Principal. His publications include 'The Creative Suffering of God' (1988), 'Past Event and Present Salvation: The Christian Idea of Atonement' (1989),'Participating in God: A Pastoral Doctrine of The Trinity'(2000), 'The Promised End: Eschatology in Theology and Literature' (2000), and 'Tracks and Traces: Baptist Identity in Church and Theology'(2003).
In 2004 Oxford admitted him to the degree of Doctor of Divinity, and the following year he delivered the Bampton Lectures to the University, under the title 'Seeing the world and knowing God: ancient wisdom and modern doctrine'.
All are welcome and after the Sermon there will be a wine-reception at Michaelhouse for those attending. Members of the University of Cambridge should wear their gowns at the Sermon.
