The route of the Uni 4 bus service, which connects West Cambridge, the City Centre and Cambridge Biomedical Campus and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, will be diverted from next Monday.

As work begins on a ten-month project to create an underpass for the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway at Hills Road Bridge, road capacity will be reduced to one lane in each direction for cars and cyclists.

Temporary bus lanes will be provided on both approaches to the bridge, to enable buses to bypass queues of cars.

The University-subsidised Uni 4 service, operated by Stagecoach, will be diverted along Trumpington Road and Long Road on its way to Addenbrooke’s on the southbound route, rather than using its usual Brooklands Avenue and Hills Road route.

Northbound buses from the Addenbrooke’s bus station will continue to use Hills Road and Brooklands Avenue.

Passengers who wish to travel from Madingley Road and West Cambridge to Brooklands Avenue or Hills Road will be able to stay on the bus at no extra charge, and alight on the return journey from Addenbrooke's. Passengers should allow extra time for their journey.

There are no changes to scheduled journey times or service frequencies. However Hills Road and the surrounding road network will be more congested than normal and this might affect service reliability.

Fares will remain at 50p for a single journey anywhere along the route for holders of a valid University Card.
