More than 800 people from 82 different countries attended the annual Scholars’ Reception of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and the Cambridge Overseas Trust yesterday evening at the Fitzwilliam Museum.
The evening marked the launch of the new website for the Trusts. The aim of the website is to give clear guidance to students who are applying to Cambridge, as well as to provide useful information for current students, departments, alumni, funding partners and others.
The guests were students at the University who are supported by the Trusts, current partners of the Trusts who contribute to the various scholarship schemes, representatives from various Departments and Colleges in Cambridge, and Trustees and staff.
Some of those invited were prevented from attending by recent travel problems.
Guests were able to wander through the galleries on both floors of the Museum, enjoying the collections while being entertained by musicians from Hills Road Sixth Form College – a string quartet and a jazz group.
The Trusts jointly fund more than 1300 overseas students on degree courses of all levels in Cambridge.
Over the coming year the Trusts will be developing an alumni programme in order to keep in touch with their many scholars around the world.
