Dr Danielle Turner, Cambridge Neuroscience Coordinator and former PhD student and post-doc at the Department of Psychiatry, has won the Times Higher Young Researcher of the Year award.

The University of Cambridge also came second in the category of ‘Best Student Experience’, as voted by students around the UK.

Nominations this year included six Cambridge entries within the 18 categories. Dr Sam Chamberlain, also from the Department of Psychiatry, was short-listed for Young Researcher of the Year, the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research was short-listed for Damian Crowther’s outstanding contribution to innovation and technology, and Ruth Scurr was nominated in the Young Academic Author category.

Also recognised by the Times Higher was Professor Lisa Jardine, a former Cambridge academic who was given a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Professor Jardine, popularly known for her work with Radio 4, started her academic career at Cambridge, first as an undergraduate, then later becoming the first woman fellow of Jesus College. She has written 14 books and over 50 peer-reviewed publications.

She is currently Centenary Professor of Renaissance Studies at Queen Mary, University of London, an honorary fellow of King’s College, Cambridge, and was recently elected honorary fellow of Jesus College.

The award winners were announced on November 15 at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London.
