To celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2004-05, and in honour of its founding President, New Hall is delighted to announce the introduction of a new rose variety.

On Monday 24 May, Dame Rosemary will be present at Chelsea Flower Show for the official launch of the new rose.

The idea of a special rose to celebrate the College’s 50th Anniversary was proposed to Dame Rosemary, a great plantswoman herself, in 1998. She welcomed the idea, and with Anne Lonsdale, current President of New Hall, visited Harkness Roses to make a selection from their seedlings.

Since then, possible varieties have been carefully monitored, and the rose which has been chosen to bear her name is a delightful yellow floribunda. ‘Rosemary Murray’ has a delicate perfume and is easy to grow. It combines old-fashioned charm with healthy foliage on a bushy plant.

New Hall’s 50th Anniversary Fundraising Campaign will benefit from all plant sales. An order form is available on the College website.
