This Summer, the Botanic Garden will be staying open late until 8pm on the first and third Wednesdays of May, June, July and August.

After hours, there’s always lots of interest to discover in the Garden from the richly-fragranced shrubs in the Scented Garden to the treasures of the Glasshouse Range, where the temperature is guaranteed to be more than 21°C!

Visitors may even be lucky enough to spot bats, the resident foxes or a grass snake taking an evening swim in the Stream Garden.

And to really relax after a long day, visitors can join a special evening tour and reserve a picnic to enjoy afterwards. The one-hour tours leave the Brookside Gate at 5.45pm and will take in the plants and landscapes at their best. It finishes at the Garden Café, where visitors can collect a freshly-made, pre-booked picnic to enjoy in the Garden (£7, £6 concession for tour only, including Garden admission, or £17, £16 for tour and picnic together. Reserve at the ticket offices or telephone 01223 336265).

The Botanic Garden Shop at Brookside Gate will also be opening late until 8pm and is delighted to offer visitors a ten per cent discount on these evenings.

As part of the Cambridge Summer Music Festival that runs from 16 July – 7 August, there will also be two Sounds Green proms concerts to enjoy, beginning at 6.15pm and offering an hour of beautiful music in the Garden.

On July 21, Ric Elsworth and young musician of the year finalist, Lucy Landymore, will give a percussion performance on the gentle-toned marimba while the summery music of the harp will drift through the Garden on August 4, with a proms performance from Rosanna Moore.

The Botanic Garden stays open late until 8pm on May 19, June 2, 16, July 7, 21 and August 4, 18.
