Jesus College opened its eighth biennial exhibition of contemporary sculpture this week. This year the exhibition features works by Rachel Whiteread, Eilis O'Connell, Alison Wilding, Philip King, Keir Smith, Steven Gregory, Peter Hide and Steve Dilworth.

Much of the work is new and some pieces have been specially constructed for the exhibition. The pieces will be on open display throughout the College grounds and gardens, which are also home to a permanent collection of modern art. Entrance is free, with disabled access. The exhibition will run until 31 July 2003.

Jesus College has hosted a series of contemporary sculpture exhibitions since the early 1980s. Its historic courts and well tended lawns provide a surprising and provocative backdrop to some of the most exciting and prominent contemporary sculpture, providing controversy and delight as exemplified by Nina Saunders' piece Pure Thoughts in 1996.

The College now has an impressive permanent collection including works by John Bellany, Antonio Belotti, Richard Bray, Barry Flanagan, Antony Gormley, Albert Irvin, Richard Long, Diane MacClean, Eduardo Paolozzi and William Turnbull.
