The Cambridge heat of the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile will take place on the track at the University Sports Ground, Wilberforce Road on Saturday 15 July.

The evening event, with races starting at 7 and 8pm, is open to runners of any standard, with all proceeds going to Sport Relief.

The event is being organized by the university’s Community Sport Initiative as part of a day of national charity running in aid of SportRelief.

Community Sport Liaison Co-ordinator, Caroline Ward is keen for people of all ages and fitness to get involved:

“The great thing about the Sport Relief mile is that anyone can take part regardless of fitness. Serious runners can try to get a personal best time whilst complete novices can walk or jog round the mile and get a great sense of achievement.

“In 2004 we had a wide range of people participating. There were whole families in fancy dress, many people with disabilities, and the oldest competitor was 84 years old.”

Registration for the Cambridge Sport Relief Mile is open now at the link above right or call 0871 200 1515 or visit Sainsbury’s on Coldhams Lane.

The Community Sport Initiative was developed by the University of Cambridge Physical Education Department to support local sports clubs and organise sporting events for the community. It was responsible for the last Sport Relief Mile in Cambridge in 2004.
