What is the purpose and future of university collections? These issues were discussed by an international meeting of academics and museum staff at a conference held at Peterhouse, Cambridge this week.

The conference was organised by the Whipple Museum of the History of Science and CRASSH (the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and the Humanities),with support from the DCMS/Resource Designation Challenge Fund, the Fitzwilliam Museum, and the University Museums Group.

It was convened by Liba Taub, who runs the Whipple Museum, and Duncan Robinson, Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum, with help from Simon Chaplin of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The speakers were people who have responsibility for collections in British, European and American universities.

Liba Taub was pleased with the success of the event.
