Today the Quality Assurance Agency publishes its Institutional Audit Report on the University of Cambridge. Commenting on the publication of the Report, Graham Allen, the University's Academic Secretary welcomed its findings.

"This is a good outcome. We welcome the QAA Audit Report's expression of 'broad confidence' in the University's management of quality and standards and its commendation of many examples of existing best practice. It is the most positive assessment possible in the Audit process.

"The report acknowledges that the University's priorities are appropriately focussed on enhancing already excellent provision. It is unfortunate, however, that the report does not always convey the extent of that excellence, which is regularly confirmed by external indicators. These findings confirm the value of balancing central and local responsibility for quality assurance.

"The University will positively address the small number of suggestions from QAA on how the University can enhance its procedures. We will agree an action plan by the end of 2003 and will, in any case, continue to give a high priority to quality assurance and enhancement."
