Nearly 1,000 alumni attended the launch of the Cambridge 800th Anniversary Campaign in the United States.

The special “Cambridge in America” days were held in San Francisco and New York on the 12th and 19th of November respectively at the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco and City University Graduate Centre, in New York City.

The events were hosted by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Alison Richard and included a day-programme of seminars given by senior academics, including Professor Stephen Hawking, Professor Simon Blackburn, Mr Duncan Robinson, Professor Roger Pedersen and Professor Rob Foley.

“Our 800th anniversary in 2009 is a cause for great celebration. But it is also a time for reflection on the challenges we face and the opportunities that we must grasp if we are to remain a beacon of excellence internationally,” said Professor Richard.

“The slogan of the Campaign ‘transforming tomorrow,’ is not just words but rather epitomises what Cambridge is and what Cambridge does through our students, our academics, our teaching and our research,” she said.
