Dr Martin Vinnell has been appointed to the position of Health and Safety Director at the University of Cambridge, commencing on 1 September 2008.

For the past seven years, Martin has been the Safety Officer for the School of the Biological Sciences, University Biomedical Support Services and Health & Safety Adviser for Downing College.

Coming from a research background (with a PhD in Molecular Biophysics), Martin initially made the move into Health & Safety in 1997, becoming the Safety Officer for the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford before joining Cambridge.

Dr Jonathan Nicholls, The University Registrary, welcomed the appointment: “Health and Safety is an integral part of the overall good management and best practice of the University. We look forward to Martin further developing this important function and continuing to foster strong and positive working relationships both internally and externally. “
