Cambridge University will once again be joining the City Council and others for a series of lectures and public events that take place throughout February to mark national Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month 2009.
The University will host a networking event for LGBT networks and staff groups on Wednesday 11 February. The session will allow participants to share good practice, experiences and issues of being LGBT within an organisation and setting up and running a network. To encourage these discussions a speaker from the long running Essex Police Nexus network will provide her insights and experiences.
Among those attending will be groups from Cambridge City Council, Cambridgeshire County Council, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service and Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
On Thursday 12 February, Lucy Cavendish will host the writers Manda Scott and Stella Duffy, who will discuss ‘Present Women, Future Novels, Past Stories’ as they read extracts from their latest, soon-to-be published historical novels.
Manda Scott is a veterinary surgeon and writer, who is known for her crime novels. Her novel “Hen’s Teeth” was shortlisted for the 1997 Orange Prize. “The Boudica Series” that she will be previewing is her first historical novel.
Stella Duffy has published 11 novels and over 30 short stories. The first novel in her Saz Martin series, Calender Girl, was voted fifth equal in the 2007 international poll The Big Gay Read.
