The Cambridge Genetics Knowledge Park (CGKP) is holding a public symposium to consider the issues surrounding genetic screening and selection of embryos.

The symposium, to be held at Addenbrooke’s Hospital on the 14th of November [5:30-8:00pm], will be used to inform a submission to the UK government on its national consultation on the Human Fertilisation and Embryology (HFE) Act, which regulates all reproductive research and practice in this country involving sperm, eggs or embryos.

This, the first public consultation of this extremely important Act for more than 15 years, is being undertaken to ensure that UK legislation keeps up with ‘the rise of new technologies, changes in societal attitudes [and] international developments’.

The CGKP hopes that the symposium will allow the Cambridgeshire community to participate in this ‘extremely important and timely legislative review’. People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome.

To participate, contact the CGKP Public Involvement Manager [brendan.gogarty@srl.cam.ac.uk / 01223 740784]. Places are limited.
