The Right Honourable Patricia Hewitt MP, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, has today (5 July 2002), used a major speech at Cambridge University’s Centre for Corporate and Commercial Law (3CL) to talk about corporate law reform in the UK.

Ms Hewitt gave the keynote speech at a conference entitled "Using Law to Promote Competitiveness and Enterprise: Will Corporate Law Reform Deliver?" organised jointly by 3CL and the University’s ESRC Centre for Business Law.

During the speech, Ms Hewitt spoke about the Company Law Review’s comprehensive report on reform of corporate law in the UK. The Company Law Review was established by the Government in 1998 and reported in 2001. Several members of 3CL and the Centre for Business Law have played leading roles advising the Company Law Review and the DTI about corporate law reform.
