Two Memorial Funds have been established by the family of Dame Anne McLaren and Donald Michie, who died together in a car accident on the 7th of July 2007, to support studentships and fellowships for scientific research.

Dame Anne was one of the University's most respected and distinguished scientists, an authority on mammalian genetics. The Fund in her name will support women scientists while the fund in Donald's name will fund research in Artificial Intelligence, the field in which he was a world-renowned expert.

Contributions can be sent to: Jonathan Michie, The Garden House, Apley Park, Norton, Shropshire WV15 5NE.

Cheques should be made payable to “The Anne McLaren Memorial Fund” or “The Donald Michie Fund”.

The family also invite Anne's and Donald's friends and colleagues to a celebration of their lives to be held in London.

The event will be held at the Prince Albert Suite, The Zoological Society of London, Prince Albert Gate Entrance, Outer Circle Regents Park on Thursday, July 19 at 5pm, followed by a drinks reception. There is a car park on Prince Albert Road.

A private cremation will be held the following morning. The family ask that donations be made to either of the funds in place of flowers.

Anyone wishing to attend should RSVP to: anneanddonald@hotmail.co.uk

There will be memorial tributes in 2008 to mark their scientific achievements and vision for a better world.
