Explosions, lasers and a dash of superconductor levitation are just a taste of what to expect at the first in an exciting new series of holiday lectures for all of the family presented by the University of Cambridge.

Cambridge is proud to present Professor Chris Bishop and his ‘Secrets of the Web’. This feast of exciting computer science experiments will form the first part of three new annual Marshall's Holiday Lectures that will engage and inspire children and adults alike.

The Marshall's Holiday Lectures aim to capture the imagination of students during their school vacations. Each of these lectures is designed to complement students’ school classes, whilst providing them with the opportunity to encounter areas of study they may not have come across.

Michael Marshall of Marshall of Cambridge said: ‘We are delighted to be sponsoring this series of lectures, which is a reflection of the strong links between the University and ourselves. It is particularly appropriate that this lecture series is commencing in the University’s 800th Anniversary Year, which is also the Centenary Year of Marshall of Cambridge.’

Professor Christopher Bishop is highly recognised in his field of academia. He is the Chief of Research Science at Microsoft Research in Cambridge, as well as a Professor of Computer Science at Edinburgh University. He has also given the famous Royal Institution Christmas lectures, a video of which can be seen using the link above right.

There is a minimum age limit of ten years old, and the audience are advised that there will be loud bangs throughout the lecture.

The lecture will take place on Saturday 19 December from 2-3pm at the Babbage Lecture Theatre, Downing Street, Cambridge.
