The Sedgwick Museum will be hosting ‘Rockwatch’, the national children’s geology club, on Saturday, 21 February from 10-4pm. Professor Adam Sedgwick (1785-1873) will be paying a visit, and will be leading a tour of the Museum, starting at 12.30pm.

Sedgwick was Professor of Geology at Cambridge from 1818 to 1873, and the current Museum was built as a memorial to him. He'll be introducing some of the Museums’ many treasures, and telling their stories as well as his own.

Families will have a chance to get their hands on fossils and minerals and to find out about the stories they can tell us about the Earth. They will also have the opprotunity to make a dinosaur diorama. Participants can bring in any rocks or fossils they have found to have Museum experts help identify them.

The event is part of the centenary celebration of the Sedgwick Museum, being held throughout March 2004.

Admission to ‘Rockwatch’ is free, and no booking required. More information can be found at www.sedgwickmuseum.org or www.rockwatch.org.uk.
