What is the future of economics? A major international conference celebrating the centenary of the Cambridge Economics degree is being held this week to discuss the future of the discipline and the challenges facing the global economy.

The conference, organised by the Cambridge Journal of Economics and being held at Faculty of Economics and Politics, is encouraging an open dialogue about the future prospects for economics with contributions from representatives of other disciplines such as geography, history, law, management, philosophy, psychology and sociology.

The conference will address the major issues challenging the global economy in a series of plenary debates between leading academics and opinion-formers. Issues that are under debate include the global financial system, industrial capitalism, unemployment and underdevelopment.

A further event celebrating the Economics Tripos centenary will be held on Friday, 26 September.
