The Foreign Minister of Singapore, a Cambridge alumnus, is in Cambridge today to give a distinguished lecture.

His Excellency Mr George Yeo, who graduated with a Double First in Engineering from Christ’s College in 1976, has been a senior politician in Singapore since entering political life in 1988.

He has served variously as Minister of State for Finance, Minister for Information and the Arts and Minister for Trade and Industry. He has been Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, under fellow Cambridge alumnus Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, since 2004

In a lecture entitled ‘The Great Re-pricing’ he will suggest the likely effects of the current global economic downturn and how, once it is over, a better-defined multi-polar world will emerge in which ideas about economics and how society should be organised, as well as assets and methods of production, will be “repriced”.

The lecture will begin at 2.30pm today in the lower ground floor lecture theatre LG17 of the Law Faculty on the Sidgwick Site. Mr Yeo will be introduced by Dr Kate Pretty, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for International Relations. All are welcome.
