This weekend Clare Hall is hosting the Tanner 2000 Calendars Symposium.

Clare Hall's West Court, off Herschel Road. Most of the Symposium's events will be held here - with the exception of the opening lecture, which will take place at 3:00pm in Lady Mitchell Hall at the University's Sidgwick Site.

The three-day programme of events starts this Friday 30 June, with an introductory afternoon lecture on the topic of Calendars by Professor Stephen Jay Gould of Harvard University.

Saturday morning follows on with a full programme of talks on Cultures and Calendars, featuring the following speakers and topics:

After a discussion period and lunch, Saturday afternoon's speakers will move on to consider a variety of aspects of Science and the Measurement of Time:

Sunday's events begin at 10:00am, and promise an eclectic programme of music and discussion on The Performance of Time:

These will be followed by music by John Woolrich, with Eileen Hulse (soprano) and Catherine Edwards (piano).

The afternoon's sessions feature a Panel Discussion chaired by Bishop Carolyn Tanner Irish, and a lecture and readings on The Loss of Lost Time by author Professor Toni Morrison, of Princeton University.

All members of the public and the university are warmly invited to attend. Entry is free, but admission is by ticket only.
