The University of Cambridge has announced it will accept the Advanced Diploma in Engineering (Level 3) qualification for entry onto its undergraduate engineering courses. The change will take effect for applications made in the 2009 admissions round for courses starting in 2010.
Any students wishing to use the qualification for entry will need to include Physics A-Level and the Level 3 Certificate in Mathematics for Engineering as part of their additional specialist learning (ASL) and demonstrate the same level of academic aptitude and potential as other applicants.
The decision has been welcomed by Dr Geoff Parks, Director of Admissions for the Cambridge Colleges:
“I have been quite heavily involved in the development of the Advanced Diploma in Engineering and of the Level 3 Certificate in Mathematics for Engineering. I am therefore pleased that the Advanced Diploma has joined the range of qualifications that are acceptable as preparation for our highly rated Engineering courses.
The Engineering Diploma is an interesting new qualification combining practical and theoretical learning in innovative ways. I very much hope that its introduction will not only help address the skills shortage in a discipline that is vital to the country’s economic wellbeing but also extend opportunities to talented young people from all backgrounds.”
