Cambridge Assessment is the new identity of the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), one of the world's largest assessment agencies.

Since UCLES’ establishment in 1858 as a schools examination board, the organisation has grown into a major international education body, developing and delivering academic and vocational exams, tests and qualifications in over 150 countries. The new identity and logo will further enhance the organisation’s national and international profile focussing and strengthening its activities.

Cambridge Assessment’s Group Chief Executive, Simon Lebus, commented: “Cambridge Assessment will build on UCLES' respected reputation for intellectual rigour and reliability. But it’s much more than just a name and logo change – as one of the world's largest assessment agencies, the new identity provides an opportunity for us to create a powerful voice which will continue to influence the development of assessments that encourage and recognise individuals' achievement; driving access to the real benefits of education.”

Over eight million candidates take Cambridge Assessment’s examinations and tests every year. These are delivered through three educational operations: OCR, the UK awarding body which creates, designs and delivers general and vocational qualifications to over 13,000 schools, colleges, employers and training providers; University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), the world's leading provider of international school examinations and international vocational awards; and University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL) which provides exams and tests for learners and teachers of English for speakers of other languages in 135 countries including the UK.

Looking to the future, Cambridge Assessment will embrace the latest advances in technology through the extensive trialling and introduction of e-assessment, e-portfolios and other exciting new initiatives. As a leading centre for research into assessment and innovations in education, the organisation is also piloting Thinking Skills tests and recently announced a partnership with the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) to develop ‘UniTest’, a generic test which is designed to provide additional information to assist university admissions in the UK.
