A symposium takes place today in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences to mark the retirement of Professor Martin Richards as Director of its Centre For Family Research.

The Centre for Family Research has an international reputation in its field of research on families, kinship and relationships, and attracts visiting scholars from all over the world.

Professor Richards has been at the helm since it was founded in 1966. His particular research interests include parental divorce and children, and the psycho-social aspects of human genetics and reproductive technologies.

The symposium brings together colleagues and collaborators from many academic disciplines to discuss early work and current developments at the Centre as a tribute to Professor Richards.

Eminent Speakers from Cambridge, York, Oxford, Edinburgh and London will cover topics such as the psycho-social factors in the increase in caesarean births, understanding babies, family law and policy and the social and ethical dimensions of human genetics.
