Prize draw terms and conditions

These prize draw terms and conditions (the “Terms”), available at, apply to the University of Cambridge-operated free STEP prize draw.

  1. The Promoter

  2. The competition
    1. The title of the prize draw is: STEP participant prize draw
    2. The prize draw will run from 05/02/201 (the 'Opening Date') to 19/03/2021 (the 'Closing Date') inclusive.
    3. All prize draw entries must be received by no later than the Closing Date. All prize draw entries received after the Closing Date will be automatically disqualified.
    4. A weekly winner will be chosen from those students who have completed all seven days of the EMA reports at random by using a computer process that produces verifiably random results from all entries received and verified by the University.
  3. How to enter

    Please click on the following REDCap link  and complete the consent form, to become a STEP participant.

    You will then need to read the Information on the study which can be found on the STEP participant information sheet and which explains what you will need to do.

    In order to enter this weekly prize draw you will need to submit seven days of completed EMA reports (as described on the website and information sheet). We offer an automatic, free entry to the weekly prize draw for a £100 voucher (to be spent in the UK) to those participants who complete all the daily STEP surveys in the previous week.

  4. Eligibility

    1. The prize draw is open to participants in the STEP study who complete all the daily reports for each week of the Lent Term 2021. Participants are students of the University of Cambridge.

    2. You must be a student at the University of Cambridge in order to enter the prize draw.

    3. Any student who is professionally connected with the creation/implementation of the prize draw or its administration is not permitted to enter the competition.

    4. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter the prize draw but you will require email and internet access to enter. No refund may be claimed for any expenses incurred relating to the use of an email account or internet connection for the purpose of entering the competition.

    5. By entering the prize draw, you are indicating your agreement to be bound by these Terms.

    6. By entering the prize draw, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize you may win.

    7. The Promoter will not accept entry into the prize draw where the entries or any EMA reports are:
      (a) automatically generated by computer;
      (b) completed by third parties or in bulk;
      (c) illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with;
      (d) not originals; or
      (e) incomplete.

    8. The Promoter will not accept responsibility for prize draw entries that are not received for whatever reason.

    9. There is a limit of one entry per person. Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified.

    10. The Promoter reserves all rights to disqualify an entrant if the entrant’s conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize competition.

  5. Prize

    1. There is a weekly prize draw to win one £100 voucher (the Prize) to be spent in the UK for those participants who complete all the daily STEP surveys in the previous week.

    2. The Promoter may substitute the Prize (or any part of the Prize) for a prize or prizes of equivalent or greater monetary value if this is necessary for reasons beyond the Promoter’s reasonable control. There is no cash alternative to the Prize (or any part of the Prize) and the Prize is non-refundable and non-transferable. 

  6. Winner notification and claiming the prize

    1. ​The Promoter’s decision as to those able to take part and selection of winners is final. No correspondence or communications relating to the prize draw will be entered into.

    2. The winner will be contacted personally using the email contact details provided on entry as soon as practicable after the Announcement Date. If the winner is unable to accept the Prize for any reason, or cannot be contacted or does not respond within 14 days, the University reserves the right to award the Prize to another eligible entrant selected at random from eligible students that week.

    3. The Promoter will notify the winner and make arrangements for the Prize to be emailed or collected as appropriate. 

    4.  The University does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the Prize.

    5. The Prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.

    6. The Promoter reserves the right to cancel or amend the Terms without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the Promoter’s control.  Any changes to the prize draw will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by the Promoter.

  7. Limitation of liability
    Except in respect of death or personal injury resulting from any negligence of the Promoter, to the maximum extent permitted by law, neither the Promoter nor any of its officers, employees or agents shall be responsible (whether in tort, contract or otherwise) for: 

    (a) any loss, damage or injury to you and/or any third party or to any property belonging to you or any third party in connection with the prize draw and/or the prize (including the winner’s receipt or use of the same), resulting from any cause whatsoever; or
    (b)  any loss of profit, loss of use, loss of opportunity or any indirect, economic or consequential losses whatsoever and howsoever caused.
  8. Ownership of prize draw entries and intellectual property rights

    1. All prize draw entries and any accompanying material submitted to the Promoter will become the property of the Promoter on receipt and will not be returned.

    2. By submitting your entry, you agree that the Promoter may, but is not required to, make your entry (including your name) available on the STEP website and in response to any media inquiries, and in connection with any publicity of the competition.  The Promoter will notify you in advance of this. You grant the Promoter a non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable and royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, adapt, distribute, publish and communicate to the public your prize draw entry in all media for the full period of any intellectual property rights in the prize draw entry for these purposes. The Promoter will not make any further use of your entry except with your written agreement.

  9. Data protection and publicity
    Any personal data (excluding such contained in the study data) relating to the winner or any other entrants will be used solely for the purpose of administering the prize draw and in accordance with current UK data protection legislation.  All entrants have the right to access, rectify, oppose the processing of and delete any personal information collected through participation in the prize draw. The Promoter will only process your personal information as set out in its data protection notice at and its Privacy Policy when you visit a site.

  10. General

    1. The Promoter shall have the right, at its sole discretion and at any time, to change or modify these Terms, such change to be effective immediately upon posting online.

    2. The Promoter reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the draw where circumstances outside its reasonable control make this unavoidable.

    3. If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these Terms, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude any entrant from participating in the competition.

    4. You understand that the information you provide is provided to the Promoter and not to the website.

    5. These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
