Art and science will be brought together in a unique fashion exhibition opening on 19 June at the university's Museum of Zoology.

The exhibition aims to translate ten key events of human embryonic development into a collection of dress designs that vividly chronicle the first 1,000 hours of human life. The title of the exhibition - Primitive Streak - is taken from a scientific term referring to an embryonic structure from which the different major organs of the body eventually emerge.

The collection was created by Designer Helen Storey, together with her sister Dr Kate Storey, who is a Developmental Biologist and University Lecturer in the Department of Human Anatomy and Genetics at the University of Oxford.

The show has already toured the UK, Tel Aviv, Berlin and New York, and accompanied Prime Minister Tony Blair's trip to China in October 1998.

Primitive Streak will be on show at Cambridge University's Museum of Zoology, in Downing Street, from 19 June to 12 August 2000. Opening hours are 10am-4:30pm Monday to Friday; 1-4:30pm Saturday and Sunday. Admission is £2, £1 for concessions, and free for students and those under 18.
