Peter Deer, the incoming Director of Personnel, outside his new office.

Peter Deer has been appointed Director of the University's newly created Personnel Division from the start of November.

Mr Deer was Personnel Director at University College London for ten years, and has also worked in local government and the private and voluntary sectors. He is looking forward to coming to Cambridge: "Establishing an integrated personnel office, on top of dealing with the issues that face the higher education sector as a whole, such as the recommendations of the Bett Committee on equality of pay and conditions, will be a great challenge - but also tremendously exciting."

The new Personnel Division has been formed within the University Offices by bringing together personnel staff, principally from the Works and Stipends Section of the General Board Division and the Assistant Staff Office. The two sections will remain in their respective locations and Mr Deer will be based at the 25 Trumpington Street office. In the near future, it is expected that the Division will come together under one roof.
