A new computer aided design (CAD) centre has been opened in the Department of Chemical Engineering.

The centre will mean that students have access to the very latest in CAD facilities, which will greatly enhance the Department's teaching in engineering drawing and process plant design.

Funded by an Esso Higher Education Support Scheme Award, the centre cost £20,000. Peter Laird, from Esso, visited the Department to officially open the facility.

Department Head Professor Howard Chase said: "We consider that familiarity with the latest CAD techniques is an important feature of the industrial training provided in our undergraduate course.

"This award from EHESS enables us to achieve that objective by providing both the hardware and software components to construct a state-of-the-art CAD facility."

The new centre includes six new workstations with 21 inch monitors running the latest version of the HYSYS process simulation package and AutoCAD LT. The equipment was purchased through Evesham.com.
