Information if you have a disability

As a proud member of the Disability Confident scheme, the University of Cambridge welcomes applications from individuals with disabilities. We will ensure fair treatment throughout the recruitment process, and adjust the process wherever reasonable, to enable applicants to compete to the best of their ability – and continue to support you through your employment.

We do not provide our recruiting teams with any information about a candidate’s protected characteristics, including disability. If you would like to be considered under the Disability Confident scheme, we encourage candidates to state this under the ‘Reasonable Adjustments’ section of the application. This information is only available to recruitment administrators.

We encourage applicants to disclose their disabilities in the ‘Equal Opportunities Monitoring’ section of the application. Applicants or employees can disclose a disability at any time.

If you wish to discuss any reasonable adjustments, you can contact the recruiting department at any point in the process. Contact details will be in the job advert or the further information document (which will be attached to the vacancy). Alternatively, you can contact the HR Resourcing Team.

We have dedicated web pages for applicants and employees with a disability.

If you cannot apply online—for example, if you have a disability—then you should contact the person listed on the advert, who will be able to provide you with an application in another suitable alternative format.

Equal opportunities monitoring

As part of the application process, we may ask some questions about you to help us monitor how well our equal opportunities policy is working. We may ask about your race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation and whether you have any disabilities. We use these categories as outlined by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

We recognise the sensitivity of this information and we only use it in the manner set out above, to generate anonymised and aggregated equality statistics. This information is stored in a different part of our system. It will not be visible when you or others view your application, and it will not be used as part of the selection process.

We encourage all applicants to complete this section of the application as fully as possible, but each question also has a “Prefer not to say” option for those who do not feel comfortable to share this information.

For information about how applicants’ personal data is used, please see the section on Applicant Data on our HR web pages.
