This is a message for members of University staff from the Vice-Chancellor about end-of-year gatherings following the government's announcement of enhanced COVID-19 measures.

Dear colleagues,

We have received confirmation that a number of cases of the highly transmissible Omicron variant have been identified at the University, which indicates that the virus is circulating within the local community. In light of this, and given the guidance we have received nationally, I strongly encourage people to consider postponing any end-of-year gatherings or parties.

If, however, you choose to go ahead, please make sure you carry out a risk assessment. Once again, when an assessment of the risks suggests that an event can take place, I would strongly encourage everyone to use all possible mitigations as appropriate – use of Lateral Flow Testing, adequate ventilation and face-coverings. It is also important that no one should feel compelled to attend if they have any concerns.

Our earlier guidance about working from home remains in place.

With best wishes,

Stephen
