Cambridge works with universities, research bodies, governments, and foundations across the world. These links are built through many types of partnerships and networks.
The Global Engagement Office works with our academic community to build and coordinate these relationships. Often working across Schools, the team coordinate by bringing people together, sharing regional insights and helping colleagues understand how their work fits within the University. The office also supports and manages high-level visits and delegations, making sure visits connect with Cambridge's academic strengths and priorities.
Strategic partnerships
Cambridge maintains many well established partnerships with peer institutions around the world. Each partnership grows in its own way, shaped by academic interests, subjects, and people involved. Many include work across different disciplines, shared projects, and activity in both research and education.
The Global Engagement Office supports academics as these partnerships develop. They connect the right parts of the University, and make sure each relationship reflects Cambridge’s academic strengths and priorities.
Regional insights
We work in many regions, and our activity is shaped by long-standing academic relationships and new opportunities. The Global Engagement Office offers regional expertise and insight by drawing on existing partnerships, current academic research and the knowledge of colleagues who work in those areas. This helps our community see where Cambridge is already connected, what activity is underway, and how their own plans fit in with the rest of the University. These insights can guide early planning and link colleagues who have useful experience or context.

Developing new collaborations
New international collaborations at Cambridge usually start with our academics or departments. GEO supports these early stages by sharing what we know about existing links, helping colleagues see how a new idea fits within wider activity, and connecting them with the right experts and services.
If you wish to explore a partnership with Cambridge, the best first step is to contact the academic or department most relevant to your interests.
Colleagues within Cambridge can find further guidance and support on the International Engagement Hub.
Exchange programmes
The Global Engagement Office oversee a small number of student and researcher exchanges with partner institutions overseas. These programmes give participants the chance to spend time in another academic setting, develop new ideas, and build international experience. There are opportunities in various disciplines and partners and each programme has its own application process and requirements.

Funding calls
Funding calls help start or strengthen international links, such as support for workshops, short visits, or early stage collaboration with key partners.
Institutional networks
Cambridge is a member of several international research and higher education networks. These bring universities together and support collaboration, knowledge sharing and joint work on issue important to the sector. Taking part in these networks strengthens our research links and help the University stay connected across the global academic community.
