How the University works
The Finance Committee
The Council has many standing committees, but amongst the most important committees with executive responsibilities is the Finance Committee. Its main responsibilities are to account to the Council for the receipts and payments of the University and all its Departments and subsidiaries; to budget and advise the Council on the trends in University income and expenditure; to control the University's investments; and to maintain and care for all University sites and buildings.
The Committee consists of
- the Vice-Chancellor (as Chairman);
- three members of the Regent House elected by designated representatives of the Colleges;
- four persons appointed by the Council, who need not all be members of the Regent House (thus allowing for `lay' representation amongst the membership);
- one member of the General Board appointed by the Board;
- three members of the Regent House appointed by Grace of the Regent House;
- up to two further members co-opted by the Committee.
In addition to the Finance Committee, the Council has a Planning and Resources Committee to advise it on the allocation of University funds.
