Student Handbook 2011-12
Welfare: Equality and Diversity
The University is committed to providing equal opportunities, promoting an inclusive culture and valuing diversity for all its students. This commitment is preserved in the University's Equal Opportunities Policy (University Statutes and Ordinances, p150). The E&D section supports the University's vision by providing specialist expertise and knowledge to progress equalities within the University.
Most recently, E&D has developed University policy and sought the active engagement of protected groups. Examples of this work include the University's Combined Equality Scheme and establishment of Diversity Networks like Student Links which brings together student liberation and minority campaigns, student representatives and members of other Networks across the collegiate University. In the next academic year, E&D will focus on the development of equality objectives in response to the Equality Act 2010, and these will inform the University's priorities for the next four years.
E&D also supports the University's involvement in a range of diversity events including Black History Month (BHM), International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month and International Women's Day (IWD).
E&D welcomes student engagement at E&D events and participation in annual E&D consultations. Students can also contact their E&D Student Links representatives via CUSU or the Graduate Union. The Student Links Coordinator for 2011-12 is Rosie O'Neill at studentsupport@cusu.cam.ac.uk.
Both staff and students are welcome to contact E&D directly at equality@admin.cam.ac.uk, tel. (01223) 332286.
