Help Desks and contact information for computing facilities
A number of widely-used computer systems around the University have their own Help Desk or other support contacts. Any of these Help Desks should be able to pass on queries which are sent to them inappropriately, but it will generally be quicker to approach the right people in the first place. The list below may be helpful; see also the note below about how to deal with problems in getting Raven access to various services such as CamSIS or CamCORS.
- The UCS Service Desk (Help Desk):
service-desk@ucs.cam.ac.uk, phone 01223 (7)62999, or in person at Computing Service Reception on the New Museums Site, for all questions about services run by the Computing Service. Users of Departmental or College Managed Clusters within the PWF should usually start by consulting their own local support staff. - Telephone Help Desk:
helpdesk@phone.cam.ac.uk - CamSIS:
camsishelp@admin.cam.ac.uk
(see also http://www.camsis.cam.ac.uk/cam-only/helpdesk/) - CamCors:
help@camcors.cam.ac.uk - CSRS (formerly CamGrad):
csrs.help@admin.cam.ac.uk - CamTools:
camtoolshelp@admin.cam.ac.uk - MISD (Management Information Services Division, managing
the Administrative Computing Network):
misd.service.desk@admin.cam.ac.uk - CUFS (University Financial System):
UFS_enquiries@admin.cam.ac.uk - University Card:
univcard@admin.cam.ac.uk - Raven access to electronic library services:
lib-raven@lists.cam.ac.uk - Clinical School Computing Service (CSCS):
helpdesk@medschl.cam.ac.uk - CARET:
for all services letshelp@caret.cam.ac.uk
Checking Raven functionality
If you have a Raven password and have difficulty getting through to any of the Raven-protected services, such as CamSIS or CamCORS, the first thing to do is to find out whether the problem is with Raven or with the service you are trying to reach. To test the Raven component, you should go to the web page at http://www.cam.ac.uk/cs/raven /test/ and follow the instructions there. Raven will report success or failure. If the test fails, it is a Raven problem and you should consult the UCS Service Desk (Help Desk). If the test succeeds then Raven is working correctly and you should consult the Help Desk for the appropriate service (e.g. CamSIS); see the list above.
