Cambridge University Combined Boat Clubs is the umbrella organisation for student rowing at the University of Cambridge, consisting of the University and College Boat Clubs.

As well as organising the Lent and May Bumps, CUCBC also regulates student clubs' use of the River Cam.

Wildlife Guidance

A reminder of the Wildlife guidance from the Cambridge River Users Group (also found in our Guidance for Coxes and Coaches).

There are three swan families which coxswains / steerspeople should be looking out for:

  1. Near the Midsummer Common footbridge, around the Pembroke & Emma boathouses
  2. Near the white footbridge at Riverside, near to big Tesco
  3. On the Long Reach, often near to the new footbridge

Forthcoming River Closures

Weekend Rowing: First VIIIs may boat from 11:00am on both days. All other crews may boat from 11:15am on both days.

Early Morning Restrictions: Crews boating within 15 minutes of lighting down must carry white lights visible through 360o. Novice crews may boat from 07:30am.

Evening Hours will be in effect during 17:30-20:00 on weekdays during Easter Full Term for first boat training only. Please see the Evening Rowing page for more information.

Details of forthcoming closures of the river to CUCBC crews are shown below. All are for the river downstream of Chesterton Corner / Green Dragon Footbridge and upstream of Baitsbite lock unless stated otherwise. Where an event allows row throughs for Senior Crews, these are defined as crews which may row below Baitsbite lock (i.e first boats and crews in the first two divisions of May Bumps).

Lent GoR 2024 - Cancelled

We have had to cancel the Getting On Race for Lent Bumps 2024.

A message from the safety advisor:

"The river level and stream are such that we do not feel we can safely run the getting on race this afternoon; it is therefore cancelled. All crews entered will receive a full refund.

Following discussion between the Chief Umpires we have decided that only crews who currently have permanent places will be able to race next week. Crews who competed last year and who were taken off the start order and put into the GoR will not regain their places. We will therefore have, at maximum, two full divisions and one part division on each side. Further curtailment to racing may be required depending on conditions next week."

Lent Bumps 2024

The Lent Bumps 2024 took place from Tuesday 27th February to Saturday 2nd March 2024. The Getting-On Race was due to take place on Friday 23rd February 2024, but was sadly cancelled due to flooding.
