Wiping memories to tackle alcoholism

Research into the way memory works could lead to a breakthrough in the treatment of alcoholism. Memories associated with triggering relapse in alcoholics could be treated at the point of recall, deleting the unconscious stimulus that spark craving for drink.

Memory like a fish

How will we remember them?

As we approach Remembrance Day, a Cambridge University project that looks at the role of memorials in conflict-torn communities is drawing to a close. By focusing on five places in Europe which have suffered losses, Cultural Heritage and the Reconstruction of Identities after Conflict (CRIC) has shown how memorials both heal and hurt.

Do Memorials Matter?

For the Festival of Ideas, Dr Dacia Viejo-Rose, a researcher on the CRIC research project, will discuss the unexpected impact and diverse use of memorials in societies recovering from war. Directed from the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, the CRIC project is investigating the reconstruction of cultural heritage after conflict in different areas of Europe.
