More than 450 Cambridge alumni and friends attended last night’s Cambridge 800th Anniversary Campaign launch event at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hong Kong.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Alison Richard and other senior representatives from Cambridge were joined by some of Hong Kong's most prominent individuals including the Chief Executive of Hong Kong (SAR) Dr. the Hon. Donald Tsang, GBM, acclaimed author Professor Louis Cha and Dr David K.P. Li, Chairman of the Hong Kong Bank of East Asia and Chairman of the Campaign Planning Committee and The Friends of Cambridge University in Hong Kong. In addition Minister Mentor, Lee KuanYew flew in from Singapore to attend.

The event, which was the largest ever gathering of Cambridge alumni in Hong Kong, was a happy reunion for all. Members of the world-famous King's College Choir entertained the guests and the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the main objectives of the Campaign and the importance of Cambridge's growing links to China.

"It was a great evening and a chance to see old friends and make new ones," said Professor Richard.

"We had some very positive feedback about the Campaign and it was wonderful to see that all of our alumni still feel a strong connection to Cambridge. Their support and friendship is essential if Cambridge is to continue to be one of the world's greatest universities offering opportunities to the most talented students and faculty from around the globe."
