Women at the University are being invited to attend a series of seminars to discuss areas relevant to their everyday working lives. The seminars have been organised by Felicity Hunt, the Equal Opportunities Officer, and the Women’s Forum Steering Group.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alison Richard, will introduce the early seminars beginning on Wednesday 22 October at Downing College from 9am-1pm. For this seminar invitations have been sent to women in many of the Downing Site Departments.

As part of the University's Gender Equality Action Plan, the Women’s Forum will enable women at all levels to voice their concerns and contribute to the development of the gender equality plan. The Forum also aims to identify proposals for implementation by the University and to facilitate special interest groups and networks.

Topics which may be discussed cover issues for women- rather than ‘women’s issues’- and include recruitment, promotion, ageism, work/life balance, caring and being cared for, equal pay, redundancy, pensions and having a voice.

The next seminars will take place from 2-5pm on the 20 November and the 19 January at the University Centre, Granta Place, Mill Lane, preceded by lunch. Women from city centre departments and institutions will receive invitations to these seminars. Others will be arranged for later in 2004.
