Bishop Jackelen

The Right Reverend Dr Antje Jackelén, Bishop of Lund in Sweden, will preach the Hulsean Sermon in Great St Mary's, the University Church, on Sunday 4 March, at 11.15 a.m.

Dr Jackelén was born in Germany and studied there and in Sweden. Ordained in the Church of Sweden in 1980, she has been Bishop of Lund since 2007.

After completing her doctorate in theology in 1999, she taught at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago until 2007, and was also Director of the Zygon Center for Religion and Science.

She remains Adjunct Professor of Systematic Theology and of Religion and Science at the School.

A founding member of the International Society for Science and Religion, she is also President of the European Society for the Study of Science and Theology, and has published widely.

Her books 'The Dialogue between Religion and Science: Challenges and Future Directions' and 'Time & eternity: the question of time in church, science, and theology' are available in English.

The Hulsean Sermon was originally supported  by an endowment in the will of the Reverend John Hulse, an alumnus of St John’s College who died in 1790.

All are welcome and after the Sermon there will be a wine-reception at Michaelhouse for those attending. Members of the University of Cambridge should wear their gowns at the Sermon.
