The Iliad, Homer’s epic account of the Trojan War, is being introduced back into state primary schools by the Cambridge Schools Classics Project (CSCP).

Two leading British storytellers, Hugh Lupton and Daniel Morden, have been commissioned to create a new audio version of the Iliad for nine and ten year-olds. The CSCP believe that the ancient myths and legends of the Iliad will engage children and capture their imaginations - in much the same way that the more ‘modern’ exploits of Harry Potter and Bilbo Baggins have done.

The study of Classics is often dismissed as an elitist subject and the value of the subject was recently questioned by Charles Clarke, the Education Secretary.
