By far the biggest event to take place in the Cambridge Musical Calendar is happening this Saturday, 20 November in Ely Cathedral. An orchestra of combined musicians of Cambridge University Musical Society First Orchestra and Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra, an excellent line-up of professional soloists, will be joining forces with a combination of University, College and Local Choirs to stage the spectacular Mahler's Eighth Symphony of a Thousand.

A second concert will be performed in the Royal Albert Hall on 6 December. Conductor Stephen Cleobury said: "It will be the first time that Mahler 8 has been performed by musicians from Cambridge alone, in two wonderful settings. The prospect is both thrilling and daunting.".
