A new Master will be taking over at Trinity Hall. Professor Peter Frederick Clarke, M.A., Ph.D., Litt.D., F.B.A., has been chosen by the Fellows to replace Sir John Lyons when he retires in September 2000 after fifteen years as Master.

A new Master will be taking over at Trinity Hall. Professor Peter Frederick Clarke, M.A., Ph.D., Litt.D., F.B.A., has been chosen by the Fellows to replace Sir John Lyons when he retires in September 2000 after fifteen years as Master.

Professor Peter Clarke

Professor Clarke is a Professor of Modern British History and Fellow of St John's College. He graduated from St John's in 1963 and lectured in History at University College, London, between 1966 and 1980; in that year he took up a Lectureship in Cambridge and was appointed Reader in Modern History in 1987, and Professor in 1991. Professor Clarke has considerable administrative and editorial experience, and has held numerous distinguished Visiting Professorships elsewhere. He will deliver the Ford Lectures in the University of Oxford in 2002.

Among his publications are Hope and Glory: Britain 1900-1990 which is the ninth volume of the Penguin History of Britain.
