Dame Stephanie Shirley, one of Britain's most successful and philanthropic women, will be visiting Cambridge on Tuesday 5 March 2002 to give a public lecture entitled Inspirational Leadership at Lucy Cavendish College's Centre for Women Leaders.

Renowned for founding a women-only company and pioneering flexible work practices, Dame Stephanie blazed a trail in the IT services industry while coping with the upbringing of an autistic son, and nowadays devotes her energy and enthusiasm to identifying and funding strategic projects in the fields of autism and IT. Described as the "donor who makes things happen", her most recent initiative was to provide £10 million for the establishment of the Oxford Internet Institute based at Balliol College.

Dame Stephanie will use her own experience in building up Xansa plc to point to the qualities that leaders and companies need in today's challenging world and the lessons she personally learnt. It promises to be an inspirational lecture, as is her guiding principle to give away as much money as she can. "The more money I give away, the richer my life becomes," she says.
